Can we convince ALL our neighbors to put their bird feeders away and not feed the bear?  Spread the word.  It's not cute or fun.  They are getting braver.  I've heard weekend people say "I take down the birdfeeders when I leave".  that still attracts the bear, they know where to go.  That leaves the rest of us to deal with the bear scavenging the area all week.  Just don't draw them in.  They're like huge rats now, but mean.  I hope it doesn't take someone getting hurt for people to realize.  We witnessed the wrath of a sow with cubs and it's VERY nasty.

Had a bear pull the window screen off the outhouse last week. We had some garbage in there. They are out scrounging for food.

Our neighbor by the boat landing on Wheeler had to stop feeding the birds several years ago because the bears started showing up.  Last summer there was a large bear running thru the front yards of several places on Cottontail next to the boat landing, we watched it all sitting on our dock.

We definitely need to stop feeding the birds and also make sure our garbage is well secured overnight and brought to the dump ASAP.

Before the snow all melted we had HUGE bear tracks in our yard.  I think our big boy is back.  We've had sightings of him in our yard a couple of times through the years.  Now if we could get everyone to stop feeding the hummingbirds and the birds they wouldn't hang around the cottages.  We saw a sow with cubs standing against a cottage eating out of the hummingbird feeder on East Wheeler Lake Lane, mid afternoon.  I know it's fun to feed the birds and the hummingbirds but it's not fun to walk out your door and be surprised by a few or huge bear in your yard who's hanging out looking for food, or walking past your door on your deck looking for food/bird food.  They're getting braver all the time.  A bear was captured in W. Green Bay and relocated to northern Oconto County-thanks, but that's why they're pushing further south, we're saturated up north!!  And, by the way, don't shoot it-DNR fines are $4000/bear plus loss of hunting/fishing privileges for 3 years, no fighting it and you better have scratch marks on your gun and you from the bear attacking you:)  Have a great bear free summer!!
